This is Keith's professional website

This is somewhere where I post ideas my and articles relevant to my work as a psychotherapist, counsellor, trainer, supervisor and consultant. It also offers an introduction to a particular philosophy of my core model, psychosynthesis.

Also on the site is an online message board, where you can add your own thoughts on particular subjects and have dialogue with others. The site is new, so at the start here may be only a few things – but it will grow. So please come back regularly - or get in touch with me through the Blog or Contact pages. I'd like to make this site a discussion forum for the psychosynthesis community.

Some professional interests

Two longstanding therapy-related involvements are Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility, where I have been a member of a discussion group lasting
well over ten years, and Pink Therapy Associates for LGBT people.
Working in the field of psychotherapy and training, I am developing a new variant of integrative psychosynthesis, which I am coining ‘contextual psychosynthesis’.

Since setting up a training consultancy called DIALOGUE in 1986 I have developed a number of short training courses in areas such as communication skills, counselling and interviewing, training of trainers, handling group dynamics and management of change.  In particular, I have specialised in working with team conflict.  This has involved facilitating team-building sessions either at workplaces or on an 'awayday' or residential basis.

Indicative of the organisations - large and small - I have worked with over the years are:

  • Arts Training South
  • British Trust for Conservation Volunteers
  • Camden Bereavement Service
  • Horsham Counselling Service
  • Library Association
  • London Adventure Playground Association
  • Manchester City Council
  • Mencap
  • National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux
  • Sussex Probation Service
  • Terapia Child Psychotherapy
  • Terrence Higgins Trust
  • World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts
  • World Peace Academy, Basel, Switzerland

Graduating in Social & Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge (Gonville & Caius College) in 1978, I then trained in professional community work at University College, Swansea before coming to London as a community worker. My first professional posts were at Covent Garden Community Association and then West Hampstead Community Centre.

I soon became very involved with counselling gay people through a voluntary agency, London Friend, and then completed psychotherapy training in 1990 at the Institute of Psychosynthesis, London.  I then set up a freelance consultancy specialising in short courses and conflict resolution, mainly in the arts, and from 1993 headed up the Student Counselling and Advisory Service at the Central School of Speech and Drama, London.  In 1997 I completed an MSc in Training at the University of Leicester, Centre for Labour Market Studies.

In 2003 I was appointed training director of the Psychosynthesis & Education Trust, London Bridge, a post held until 2010.  I still work at PET as a supervisor, and maintain a private practice in the building. Currently I am chair of the Training Standards Committee of the Humanistic and Integrative College of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.

Apart from the endlessly fascinating world of therapy, my other interests extend to modern architecture and design, the Israel-Palestine debate, and anything to do with the Netherlands. From 2010 I have begun the three-year professional training at the Alexander Teacher Training School in London.
